Magloire in Portland
posted: 8/9/2006 at 9:10 PM

Thursday will be the day we'll finally get to hear from the newest Trail Blazer, Jamaal Magloire. This situation has been a little unusual, and people have drawn their own conclusions as to why it's taken so long for the introductory press conference to take place. Following a trade in the off-season, players have one week to report to their new teams. Magloire, however, had previous plans in his native Toronto, and asked the NBA for an extension. Being the conflict was due to work he was doing for his charity, it was no problem. The Trail Blazers didn't have an issue with it either.

Magloire arrived in Portland on Wednesday afternoon and then had dinner with Steve Patterson and Kevin Pritchard. Bright and early Thursday morning, I'm set to meet with Jamaal, and will sit down for an exclusive one-on-one with him. By mid-morning on Thursday, the interview will be available for you to hear. I'll post it both here on the blog, and on the front page of trailblazers.com.

Following the interview with me, Magloire will be given the routine physical by the Trail Blazers. He's been rock-solid during his NBA career, and his only significant injury has been a broken finger he suffered during the 2004-05 season, that limited him to just 23 games. He's played in all 82 games in four of the past five seasons, so there isn't much worry going into the examination.

Following the exam he'll be introduced to all the Trail Blazer employees at the Rose Quarter offices, and then will be off to Open Meadows Learning Center in North Portland, to meet the media in the formal press conference. Patterson and Pritchard will also be there to answer questions from reporters.

Again, check back here Thursday morning for Magloire's first interview as a Trail Blazer. It'll hopefully be up and running by about 10am. Later in the day we'll have much more from the press conference and event at Open Meadows.

Yeah, great job Mike! We really do enjoy the updates! I can't remember the last time I was so excited for a Trail Blazers season to start. All of the fresh new faces mixed in with a few of the old will be awesome and interesting to see this season. Oh and a question... What's the deal on Voshon Lenard and Darius Miles? Are they staying in Portland or what's going on with them?
