Congrats to the Blake Family
posted: 9/22/2006 at 10:33 PM

Even though he's no longer on the roster, Steve Blake is very much a part of the Trail Blazers' family. He and his wife, Kristen, have adopted Portland as their new hometown, and will been returning to their home here after the upcoming NBA season. Friday afternoon the season got off to a very special start for their family.

At 4:34 pm on Friday, Kristen gave birth to their first child, Nicholas Hanson. He weighed in at 7 pounds 8 ounces, and was 22 and a-half inches long. Everything went as planned, and Friday night Nicholas was resting comfortably with his parents.

The Blake's were happy to be able to share this news first with Blazernation, and even though mom wasn't quite ready to be in a photo on this blog, I was able to get a shot of Steve and his son. They have made so many special friends in Portland, and were happy they were able to give birth here, before the start of the season. Steve has been working out at the Trail Blazers' practice facility, and in two weeks will report to the Milwaukee Bucks. A short time later, Kristen and Nicholas will move back and join him.

Congratulations to Steve and Kristen on this very special weekend.

Awesome news for the Blakes - Congratulations! They deserve mucho good karma after his great attitude here in Portland and I hope we see him in a Blazers uni sometime in the future.

Little Nicholas can start working on his crossover move within the first day or two . . . .

Hey MB, give congrats to Steve...from a complete stranger who he has no idea who he is (that'd be me).

And tell him to go have a good season (cept for 2 games next year).

Great news! It's too bad Steve had to get traded, I know it had nothing to do with his work ethic or his play on the court, it had more to do with his contract. Hopefully we can nab him as a free agent next year. Congrats to the Blake family and I wish nothing but the best for you in your upcoming year for the Bucks!

Steve, Congratulations, to you and your wife. He's going to have a great basketball mind and plenty of ball handling skills. Enjoy the blessing of your son and I'm looking forward to you getting down on the court as well as tutoring Sergio and making him as good as you are.....

Portland, It's going to be a fun year here and this is just the beginning.

Congrats to the Blakes. Tell the young boy he's got some handles in his blood. Wish you were here in Portland to teach Sergio but I think he's got more than enough teachers out here.

Go Blazers!!!!

Congratulations Steve,
I remember when my wife had our son he was born a couple weeks after I got back from Iraq, and also on My birthday, November 5th 2004. It was a miracle, this is going to be the best time of your life, enjoy it, and hopefully we see you back here in a Blazers uniform after this season. You are one of the greatest people that I have never known, except for what I have seen on and off the floor. Thanks for being an upstanding person, and the kind we need here in Portland.

You'll be back, Steve. We can't wait to have you back. And Portland is a much better place to than Milwaukie to raise a family anyway. See you next season!
